The attack on compensation claims by Jews made by Bonn Minister of Justice Fritz Schaeffer “must have been welcome to all anti-Semites, Barnett Janner, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, said at a board meeting today.
Mr. Janner noted that “in view of Herr Schaeffer’s past it would be wrong to attribute anti-Semitic motives to him.” But he warned that “while the danger may have passed over for the moment, it will be necessary to remain watchful, for Herr Schaeffer is an important person of great influence.”
