American Jews who fought in the Palestine Jewish Legion during the World War declared today that Britain must establish Palestine as the Jewish homeland, “not as the national cemetery of the Jewish pioneers and Jewish hopes,” and offered to bear arms again for the pacification of the Holy Land. The American Palestine Jewish Legion, “representing thousands of Americans who enlisted in the British army because of the Balfour Declaration,” telegraphed Secretary of State Cordell Hull an appeal to intervene with Britain to keep her Jewish homeland promise, sealed “with the blood of thousands of Jewish soldiers.”
