The Dutch government today ordered the slaughtering of many head of cattle in accordance with the or thodox Jewish ritual, to provide for the distribution of cheap kosher mat among the Jewish unemployed in Holland.
Originally the government had proposed to issue tinned non-Kosher meat to all unemployed, including Jews. According to reports from Amsterdam at the time, the chief Rabbi had stated that in view of the emergency Jews might be permitted to use the non-kosher meat. Later he denied emphatically through the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he had issued such a dispensation.
