The International Dachau Committee has decided to set up a memorial on the site of the former concentration camp which will include separate Jewish, Catholic and Protestant memorial halls.
The structure in memory of the Jewish victims who died at the camp has been designed by Hermann Gutmann, a Frankfurt architect, and will be built under the sponsorship of the Bavarian Jewish Communities. The project, which will cost 250,000 deutschemarks ($62,500), will be dedicated in April 1965 on the 20th anniversary of the liberation of the camp.
Remains of human bodies were discovered today near the crematorium at the former Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where many thousands of Jews had perished. The discovery was made by officials of Lower Saxony inspecting the camp site, at Hannover. Workmen were ordered immediately to erect a fence around the area, and the remains will be transferred to a Jewish mass grave nearby, officials said.
