The Jewish National Fund announced yesterday that a memorial grove of trees will be planted in Israel in honor of the late bacteriologist, Dr. Waldemar M. Haffkine. The grove will be located in the Judaean Hills, according to Dr. Milton Aron, executive vice president of the JNF. It will be sponsored by the Haffkine International Memorial Committee recently established here. Dr. Haffkine, born in Russia, developed the first successful vaccines against cholera and bubonic plague. He spent 20 years in India and is credited with having laid the foundations for modern medical research and practice in that country. He was a supporter and contributor to Jewish causes in many parts of the world.
