The Cleveland Board of Education has voted to postpone the opening of school from September 10 to 12, because the Jewish New Year falls on the tenth.
The matter was presented to the board by a group of rabbis.
In addressing the board President Alfred A. Benesch stated that the present situation in Germany had caused the spread of anti-Semitism in this country, and declared that the postponement of the school opening would be an effective manner of stressing the fact that educational authorities believe the rights of American Jews as citizens should be respected.
