Jewish officials demanded that Switzerland give more compensation in return for assets seized during the Holocaust era. Avraham Burg, the co-chairman of the World Jewish Restitution Organization, said the time was ripe for a global settlement with Swiss institutions. The calls came a day after a report released by an international panel of historians said Switzerland’s central bank made no effort to ensure that it was not receiving Holocaust victims’ gold when it purchased $280 million in gold from the Nazis.
