American Jewry paid tribute to the late Eliezer Kaplan, Deputy Prime Minister and first Finance Minister of the State of Israel, at a memorial meeting tonight at the Commodore Hotel here. The gathering, held under the auspices of the American Zionist Council and the Jewish Agency, marked the end of “shloshim,” the 30-day period of full mooning.
Principal speakers included Theodore Kollek, Director-General of Israel Prime Minister’s Office: Louis Lipsky, chairman of the American Zionist Council, and Rose L. Halprin, acting chairman of the Jewish Agency. Organizations which participated in the meeting included: American Financial and Development Corporation for Israel. American Friends of the Hebrew University. American Fund for Israel Institutions, American Technion Society, Ampal, American Zionist Council (comprising Hadassah, Hapoel Hamizrachi, Labor Zionist Organization of America, Mizrachi Organization of America, Progressive Zionist League, United Zionist Labor Party, Zionist Organization of America. Zionists-Revisionists of America), and B’nai Zion.
Also the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, Jewish Agency, Jewish National Fund, Joint Distribution Committee, Materials for Israel, Mizrachi Women’s Organization, National Committee for Labor Israel, Palestine Economic Corporation, United Israel Appeal, United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York, National U.J.A., Weizmann Institute of Science, and Women’s League for Israel.
