Jewish organizations here expressed pleasure at the choice of Cardinal Pacelli as Pope, seeing in his election assurance of continuance of his predecessor’s noble and humanitarian religious policies.
Dr. David de Sola Pool issued the following statement on behalf of the Synagogue Council of America, of which he is president: “In the election of Cardinal Pacelli as Pope, the Synagogue Council of America sees an assurance that the noble, religious tradition of the Catholic Church so brilliantly exemplified by his beloved predecessor Pope Pius Xl will be continued for the blessing not only of his Church but of all mankind.”
Dr. Simon Greenberg, president of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, declared: “The Rabbinical Assembly of America extends its congratulations to the Catholics of the world on the splendid choice that was made by the Cardinals. There is every reason to believe that the newly elected Pope, who was so closely associated with his predecessor, will maintain with equal vigor the humanitarian and profoundly religious policies of the late Pope Pius Xl.”
