For the first time in the history of Czechoslovakia, deputies of the Jewish party, Angelo Goldstein and Julius Reiss, cast votes in the presidential election last week. They voted for the reelection of President Masaryk.
The Zionist organ Selbstwehr welcomed the occurrence as the first chance for Jews as Jews to express support for Masaryk. His election in these anti-democratic days, the paper declared, indicates not only a democratic victory but also Czechoslovakia’s repudiation of group, racial or class distinctions.
