According to an unpublished 1950 census of West Germany and Berlin, there were 21,974 residents professing the Jewish faith at that time, it was revealed here today. The Jewish total represented one-half of one percent of the total West German population at that time.
In addition, the 1950 census established that there were 876 Jews in displaced persons centers and approximately 3,500 Jewish residents of the Soviet-controlled part of Germany, making a total of more than 34,000 Jews in the entire country in September, 1950. At the Paris office of the American Jewish Committee, it was pointed out that today some 10,000 Jews are left in Germany.
