If the Jewish problem is not solved after the war, it will remain an “open sore” that will fundamentally affect the peace of the world, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, declared today addressing a memorial meeting for the late Lord Dedgwood, pro-Zionist peer. Dr. Weizmann said that the Zionist position was under attack at present from Jewish and non-Jewish quarters at a time when “grave issues hang in the balance.” He paid tribute to Lord Wedgwood as one of the few persons who understood the problems of the Jewish people.
Other speakers, including Parliamentarians Geoffrey Mander, Oliver Creech-Jones, Eleanor Rathbone and Lord Davies praised Lord Wedgwood’s efforts on behalf of Palestine and stressed that the Balfour Declaration must be implemented and the White Paper abrogated if Britain’s promises to the Jewish people are to be kept.
