The Jewish question in Greece, especially with regard to those territories acquired by Greece after the war, will be brought to the attention of the League of Nations, when it reconvenes.
The Greek Government has informed the Joint Foreign Committee, representing the Board of Jewish Deputies and the Anglo-Jewish Association, that it is unable to amend the law passed recently in Salonika introducing Sunday as a compulsory rest day for the entire population, including the Jews. This law will have a serious effect upon the economic situation of the Jewish merchants, who will, because of it, have to keep their businesses closed two days during the week.
This answer of the present Greek Government is in direct contradiction to the pledges made by the Former Prime Minister Venizelos during his visit to England in 1919.
It is the opinion of the Joint Foreign Committee that the case of the Jews in Greece will have to be brought before the League of Nations when the question of guarantees for the national minorities in Greece is taken up.
