Jewish refugees stranded in Shanghai are subjected to much suffering due to the Chinese civil war, despatches from Shanghai received here by the Emigdirekt state.

Hundreds of Jewish immigrants are leaving Shanghai in panic. Many immigrants in Shanghai who hold passports of the Mukden government were arrested and released only after the intervention of foreign consuls. Their release was conditioned on their departure from Shanghai within 24 hours. Several of the consuls in Shanghai provided the immigrants with facilities to go to French and British territories. The United States consul aided some of the immigrants to leave for the Philippine Islands. Those refugees who hold passports of the Soviet government remain in Shanghai unmolested.
