Jewish Refugees Land in England; Permitted to Return from Australia

An undisclosed number of German and Austrian refugees, mostly Jewish, who were deported to Australia from England in the summer of 1940 in accordance with the then British refugee policy, arrived today at a British port, it was announced here.

The refugees are being returned to this country in accordance with the policy adopted by the British government after fears of German invasion following Dunkirque, had subsided.

Some of the returned refugees were released immediately, some who had enlisted in the Pioneer Corps were sent to camps and others were transferred to the refugee detention center on the Isle of Man for examination.
