Refugees trained in building trades in ORT schools in Switzerland will be admitted to France to work and establish themselves here, it was announced today by Dr. Aron Syngalovski, ORT leader, following a conference with Paul Dautry, Minister of Reconstruction and high officials of the ministry. Dautry promised to assist the ORT in retraining Jews as masons, bricklayers and in other building crafts, of which there is an acute shortage in France.
During a lengthy interview, Dautry stressed that only part of France’s task has been accomplished by destruction of the enemy, and that the work of restoring what has been destroyed remains to be accomplished. The training of construction workers, he said, is of prime importance to France and he offered the ORT all the assistance of his ministry in this work.
After talks with Jewish organizations here, it has been decided to set up training schools in both France and Switzerland, Dr. Syngalovski said before leaving Geneva. He revealed that while here he conferred with the Soviet ambassador concerning aid for Jews in territories liberated by the Russians and professional training for Jewish youth. He described the results of this interview as “highly satisfactory.
