Professor Jacob Schwartzman and Solomon Lazarovitch, a Jewish newspaperman, both of whom acted as representatives of the London Federation of Ukrainian Jews, were arrested here on charges preferred by the “Toheka”, say advices from Odessa. The two will have to face trial before a revolutionary tribunal.
The relief supplies which the Ukrainian Federation possessed have been taken over by the government to be distributed by its agents and organizations it selects for the purpose.
The government of Odessa has issued a decree prohibiting organizations and communities from appealing for relief to organizations abroad without obtaining the government’s approval. This, it is believed, will put a stop to appeals from semi-religious and semi-illegal institutions, as it is thought that the government will not approve their appeals.
The government of Crimea has also promulgated an ordinance pronibiting individuals to distribute food parcels purchased abroad. The effect of this law will be the barring of representatives of the small relief organizations from the distributing food without the government’s knowledge and approval.
