Every Saturday evening at 9 o’clock Jewish religious services are beamed from this island to ships at sea, those tied up in the harbor and every unit and hospital on Guam.
The broadcast, which is known as the “Jewish Hour,” is under the direction of Lieutenant Philip Lipis, Chaplain Corps, USNR. Chaplain Lipis, who is a former rabbi of the Bethel Synagogue, Camden, New Jersey, is assisted by Chaplain E. H. Riokel, USNR, of Temple Bethel, Buffalo, N. Y., and by Army Chaplains A.E. Michelson of Charlotte, N.C. and D. I. Cedarbaum of New York Citye.
The program consists of the traditional Sabbath Night Service of prayer and song, with a sermon of inspiration and instruction. Music is furnished by a sextet with organ accompaniment. The program is planned from the prayer book prepared by the committee on religious activities of the National Jewish Welfare Board.
