Six representatives of French Jewish organizations were deployed along a 200-mile stretch of the French Mediterranean coast to fight awaiting the arrival of the three British transports carrying 4,500 deportees from Palestine. The six, who are located in Ville Franche, Nice, Juan les Pins, ##ulon, Marseille, and Cette, are in constant contact with Paris, but no one seems to know where the deportation ships will put in.
Jewish leaders here are greatly heartened by the French Government’s decision ## to compel the deportees to land and the promise of food for them. Local authorities, who have not yet received any instructions from Paris concerning the ships, have promised full cooperation with Jewish organizations and will keep them informed of developments. The local Jewish community is having some difficulty in persuading ##outh groups not to call demonstrations before a final France-British decision is ??eached.
