The proposal projected several months ago for the establishment in White Russia of a “Jewish Republic” has been abandoned, it is learned, for fear it would be exposed to attacks by Poland.
Broached when the Commissariat of Nationalities was abolished, the plan had the approval, among others, of the two important members of the Government, Kameneff and Stalin. The Jewish Communist leaders were also for it because it was thought the Jews would thus receive representative in the Council of Republics. At present Jews as such are not represented on the Council. The predominance of Jews in Minsk and throughout White Russia was another argument in its favor.
