Jewish personnel in the US Army Reserve will be released from annual training requirements to attend services on the High Holy Days which begin Friday night Sept. 8, in response to a request by the Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy of the National Jewish Welfare Board, the JWB reported today. The directive ordering the release was sent from the Headquarters of the United States Continental Army Command to each Army central command. The JWB stated that the decision “demonstrates the sensitivity of the military to Jewish religious needs and the desire to be as helpful as possible.”
