A group of schoolchildren representing 80,000 children attending 600 Jewish religious schools in New York today presented a check for Netherlands relief to Baron J. A. de Vos van Steenwijk, Netherlands Consul General.
The idea for raising funds to “rebuild a dike in Holland” came from students in various Jewish religious schools, Dr. Azriel Eisenberg, executive vice-president of the Jewish Education Committee of New York, revealed. He said that the children wanted to do this in gratitude to Holland, the first country in Western Europe actively to foster religious freedom and welcome Jews whenever they were expelled by anti-Semitic governments.
