The Grand Cross of the West German Order of Merit, as well as the Goethe Plaque of the City of Frankfurt, have been bestowed upon Prof. Ferdinand Blum, a well-known Jewish medical researcher now living in Switzerland, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
Dr. Blum was a popular practicing physician in pre-Hitler Frankfurt. He also headed, and for a time financed from his own pocket, the local Biological Institute. His studies on the thyroid gland and in the field of endocrinology blazed the trail for important medical discoveries. Since escaping to Switzerland 15 years ago, he has carried on scientific investigation on the cause and cure of goiter.
