Jewish scientists in Palestine have devised a method for making concrete out of orange peel, it was announced here today by the office of the Jewish Agency. They have also patented a process by which it will be possible to use orange peel for producing plastic material for the manufacture of buttons, the announcement said.
Millions of cases of oranges which cannot be exported because of a shipping shortage will now be used for valuable military and civilian construction. The citrus skins treated under the new process and mixed with cement form a strong, yet light, building material of high insulating quality, the announcement disclosed.
