Jewish Scientists on U. N. Committee for “a Tom-for-peace” Parley

Two world famous Jewish scientists are among the seven members of the advisory committee for the International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy which will hold its first meeting here tomorrow to begin preparations for a large international conference scheduled for next summer.

The two Jewish scientists are Dr. Isidor Isaac Rabi, who won the Nobel Prize in physics in 1944, and Prof. Bertrand Goldschmidt, famous cosmic ray specialist. Dr. Rabi is a representative of the United States on the advisory committee. Prof, Goldschmidt, who is head of the chemistry department at the French atomic energy commission, represents France.

Among the tasks facing the seven-nation advisory committee which is preparing for next summer’s worldwide conference is the study of contributions to atomic research, especially its peaceful applications, made by scientists in various countries. Among such contributions to be studied will be Israel’s. The researches of the Jewish State into the peaceful uses of atomic energy, as reported to the UN General Assembly last fall, have attracted a great deal of attention.
