The Mayor of Jaffa in opening the meeting of the Municipal Council held last Thursday referred to the demand made by the Jewish members of the Council for the appointment of a Jewish Secretary to conduct the minutes of the meeting in Hebrew. He declared that he would not allow any discussion on this question because the demand was perfectly sound and justified by the existing laws of the country. He announced that he had already appointed a Jewish Secretary who will attend he meetings of the Council and conduct the minutes in Hebrew.
The Mayor’s statement was accepted by the Council without opposition.
At the last meeting of the Haifa Municipal Council, the Council after prolonged discussion accepted the resolution introduced by the Jewish member of the Council, Mr. D Cohen, to appoint a Secretary to conduct the minutes of the meetings in Hebrew.
