Jewish security officers were meeting here to day to discuss defense measures, as Palestine Arabs began preparing for demonstrations on Friday to protest any action by the U.N. which would result in establishment of a Jewish state. Similar demonstrations will be held on Friday in all member states of the Arab League.
It is learned that Fauzi bey Kaukji, Syrian terrorist chief who was one of the leaders of the pre-war Arab disturbances, has established headquarters on the Palestine-Syrian border and has summoned a meeting of his followers for next Wednesday. Meanwhile, Palestine police are still hunting for the Arabs suspected of having bombed the Swedish consulate during the week-end in retaliation for the report of UNSCOP, which was headed by Judge Emil Sandstroem of Sweden.
Jewish Agency circles here are not pessimistic concerning the U.S. attitude on the establishment of a Jewish state. They are now beginning to blueprint plane for the necessary operations that will follow the British withdrawal, although they are sceptical concerning Britain’s intent to get out.
A plenary session of the Jewish National Council will be convoked this week to discuss the situation in the country. An authoritative statement will be made to the effect that in the event the British actually evacuate Palestine, the Jews will be ready to fill the vacuum and guarantee organized administration as well as implementation of the UNSCOP partition recommendations.
