The attitude of the Club of Jewish Deputies in the Polish Sejm toward the present situation in the Polish cabinet was discussed at a closed meeting of the Club today.

No official statement was issued following the meeting, but it was learned that Deputy A. Hartglass, president of the Club, reported to the members the result of his conferences with Prime Minister Skrzynski concerning the demands of the Jewish population and discussion ensued. The proposal of the Polish Socialist Party (P.P.S.), inviting the Club of Jewish Deputies to join the united opposition, was not acted upon. It was understood that the discussion was mainly devoted to defining the attitude of the Club toward the provisional budget for the months May and June, proposed by the government. It was decided that at today’s session of the sejm, a declaration on behalf of the Club be read, declaring that the Club would vote against the budget for the following reasons:

1. The figures proposed by the government are not in conformity with a real budget policy and seem to continue the policy of the Grabski government; 2. The Jewish population is suffering from heavy pressure of taxation, in addition to being compelled by the Sunday Compulsory Closing Law not to work two days a week; 3. The Jewish youth finds it extremely difficult to gain admission to the state schools, while the development of private Jewish schools is hampered; 4. The Club of Jewish Deputies disapproves of the governmental policy to introduce economy by reduction of the official salaries; the Club instead, urges that a reduction of the military budget be introduced.

When interviewed by the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency as to whether this decision of the Club signifies the Club’s proceeding to the Opposition leaders of the Club expressed varied opinions. It was pointed out that the declaration of the Club will avoid committing the Club to the opposition.
