The Canadian Department of National Defense assured the Canadian Jewish Congress that “instructions have been issued to each of the services to ensure that Jewish personnel of all branches of the Service are, where practicable, be granted lave to observe the High Holy Days, either at home or in the nearest community. “
On September 6, the Canadian Jewish Congress asked the Department of National Defense to grant such leaves. The CJC also informed the Defense Minister that home hospitality and synagogue services will be arranged for Jewish armed forces personnel on holiday leave at Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Halifax,
