Approximately fifty million dollars have been invested in Palestine by Jewish refugees from Germany. Austria and other countries of Central Europe, it was reported today at the conference of the Federation of Jewish Settlers from Germany and Austria which is taking place in Kfar Shmaryahu, the settlement named after the late Zionist leader Shmaryahu Levin, and developed by refugees from the Reich.
An announcement that Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the World Zionist Executive, is not expected in Palestine in the near future was made at the conference by Eliezer Kaplan, member of the executive of the Jewish Agency who addressed the conference on the economic development of Palestine. Kaplan stated that Dr. Weizmann, who is in New York, had cabled the executive of the Jewish Agency that his health does not permit him to come to Palestine at present.
The 130 delegates attending the conference also heard a report from Dr. Felix Rosenbluth, leader of the Federation, who emphasized that one of the principal aims of the organization is to help the German and Austrian Jews who still remain in the countries of Central Europe. He estimated that there are now about 90,000 Jews from Central European countries in Palestine of whom 75,000 are members of the Federation. He proposed that the Federation become an integral part of the Zionist Organization, continuing at the same time to assist Jews from Germany and Austria in their colonizing activities in Palestine.
