That the Jewish people have an inclination towards business and that nothing can alter this state of affairs unless the Jewish social psychology is changed, was the conclusion reached by Er. J.N. Rubinoff in his address at the opening of the convention of the Jewish Social Service Workers here on Monday.
The Tuesday sessions were devoted mostly to discussions of health problems amongst the Jews. Dr. Lee Frankel and Dr. Spivak were the chief speakers. They stated that the health condition among the Jews was generally good, but that there was a large death rate amongst the Jewish children. They advised the use of a serum against Diptheria, which is one of the principal causes of death among children. A large collection of educational books in Hebrew and English was on exhibition.
Yesterday’s session was taken up with a report on Palestine by Dr. Rubinow, who said that Palestine is the melting pot where the new Jewish type is being developed, with an address by Mr. Goldsmith of the Bureau for Jewish Social Research, who advised national assistance for campaigns for local health institutions, such as sanitariums and with a report by Dr. B. Bogen on Russia, where he said the Jews are no longer persecuted and feel themselves equal citizens with the Russians.
