More than three hundred soldiers and sailors stationed in the metropolitan area and at cantonments in New Jersey will celebrate “Succoth,” in ceremonies at the Jewish Theological Seminary Wednesday and Thursday as guests of the Greater New York Army and Navy Committee of the Jewish Welfare Board, Mrs. Ely Jacques Kahn, Chairman of the committee, announced today.
Servicemen have been granted special leave to attend the festival. The men will come by army convoy and bus from the camps. At the Seminary, the men will be greeted by Dr. Louis Finkelstein, President of the institution, and led to the large “Sukka” in the center of the school’s quadrangle. The Sukka, a wattled cabin or hut, has a roof of interlaced leaves and is hung with seasonal citrus fruits. Here the men will be served the traditional “Feast of Tabernacles.”
