None of the 320 Jewish students apparently took part in the student riots sparked by the admission of two Negro students to the University of Georgia, in the opinion of Rabbi Nathariel Zimskind, director of the Hillel Foundation at the university.
“I did not see any of the Jewish students I have grown to know through Hillel associations among the demonstrators,” Rabbi Zimskind said. He added that he had polled a group of Hillel members about desegregating the university and found a two-to-one vote for admitting Negro students.
