Officials of the University of Georgia at Athens have announced that special arrangements have been made for the estimated several hundred Jewish students affected by the scheduling of registration and the first day of classes on the first two days of Rosh Hashana. University officials informed the regional office of the Anti-Defamation League, which reported the conflict to the university and asked for special arrangements for the Jewish students, that the arrangements had been made.
Stuart Lewengrub, regional ADL director, said he had been informed that the university has a system of pre-registration available to all students, that Jewish students may register on a different date, if they have not or cannot pre-register, and that students who miss the first day of classes because of the High Holy Days will be excused and a notice sent to the faculty.
