Following intervention by Chief Rabbi Senator Dr. Niemirover, the Minister of Education has given instructions for the introduction of Jewish religious teaching in all public schools and in all private schools enjoying public rights which are attened by Jewish pupils. A circular will be issued in the next few days to all school directors throughout the country drawing their attention to this new order of the Ministry of Education. The teachers of Jewish religion will be appointed by the Jewish Communities through the Rabbinates.

The new order regulates the question of Jewish religious education in the Roumanian schools, which has been a subject of constant intervention from the Jewish side for years past. Hitherto Jewish students have always had to produce a certificate that they were receiving private Jewish religious education in order to be released from having to attend Christian religious teaching and yet be able to qualify in religion in their leaving examinations. In some cases moral pressure has even been brought to bear by school Directors and teachers on the Jewish pupils to compel them to take Christian religious training.
