Jewish students’ organizations today proclaimed six days of mourning throughout Poland for Marcus Landesberger, Jewish student who was slain by anti-Semites at Lwow Polytechnic Institute several days ago. Meanwhile, a conference of professors of the Institute applied to the prosecutor of the Lwow Appeals Court, asking him to take measures for security of human life at the institute.
Prof. Kotarbinski, noted philosopher, attacked anti-Semitic terrorism in universities in a lecture at Warsaw University. He expressed the hope that the murderers of David Landesberg would soon be discovered and punished. Unless “the unsavory acts” end, Prof. Kotarbinski said, he will follow the action of Prof. Michalowica, who announced that he was resigning his professorship after the Summer holiday unless the system of “ghetto benches” was not abolished.
Deputy Emil Sommerstein questioned Premier Skladkowski in the Sejm (chamber of deputies) on the murder. He criticized the report of the official Polish Telegraphic Agency which said that Landesberger was wounded in a fight among students. The deputy pointed out that the institute’s Senate had confirmed that it was a murderous attack on a single person. Sommer stein was later received by the Premier to discuss the case.
Meanwhile, the Jewish Parliamentary Club received a petition from Jewish inhabitants of the township of Osiek asking it to intervene with the authorities regarding continual terrorism, picketing of Jewish shops, beating of Jews in the streets, smashing of windows, demolition of cemetery tombstones and desecration of graves.
