The Jewish students’ kitchen at the University of Vilna was closed by an order of the University administration following disagreements between the Zionist and the Socialist students over the administration of the kitchen.

Dissension arose over the question of dietary laws in the preparation of food for the Jewish students. The Socialist Jewish students objected to the introduction of kosher food and the observance of all dietary laws by the administration of the kitchen, consisting mainly of Zionist students.

The President of the Vilna Kehillah Wigodsky attempted to intervene in order to prevent the closing of the kitchen. His efforts were unsuccessful.
