The veil of mystery surrounding the tragic life and death of former Austrian Crown Prince Rudolph was partly lifted with the death of Eleonore Kolmann, a Jewish woman who in her youth was an intimate friend of the Crown Prince.
The object of the Crown Prince’s youthful love died here in one of the municipal parks, mentally unbalanced and reduced to the state of a beggar. Her father, who was a well-known Jewish for dealer here, committed suicide some time ago when he lost his fortune.
It was related here that Crown Prince Rudolph, after falling in love with Eleconore Kolmann, believed that she had the makings of a great actress. He took her with him to Vienna, providing for her theatrical training. Following his marriage to Princess stephanie, daughter of the King of the Belgians, in 1881. Eleonore became a victim of melancholia and returned to Prague where she sank to a state of dire poverty. After Rudolph’s mysterious suicide at Mayerlind, Jan. 30, 1889 she became mentally unbalanced.
