During 1925 the Emigdirekt gave advice to 70,000 emigrants, intervened in 14,705 cases with consulates and Government offices, provided 2,815 emigrants with passports and 1,162 emigrants with visas, according to a report issued here. It also provided cheap passports for large numbers of emigrants and engaged in welfare work on board ship. In 6,634 cases the Emigdirekt traced relatives for emigrants in the oversea countries. Altogether 31,338 emigrants, about half the total number of Jewish emigrants in Eastern Europe used the services of the institutions of the Emigdirekt during 1925.

The Emigdirekt investigated conditions of life in the lesser known countries of immigration such as Uruguay, Paraguay, Australia, and provided information regarding them to intending emigrants. The Emigdirekt was also in close relationship with the Jewish organizations in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Argentine, Brazil, etc. It has local committees in all European countries, except Russia, and representations in France, England, Constantinople and the Far East. Through its permanent representative in Geneva it is in touch with the League of Nations on emigration matters.

Mrs. Florence Prag Kahn, widow of the late Congressman Julius Kahn, won the Republican nomination for re-election to Congress from the Fifth District, San Francisco, Cal., with a sweeping victory over four candidates. She will be opposed by Chauncey Tramutolo, Democrat, at the Fall election. She polled more votes than her opponents combined.

Deutsch Brothers, New York furniture dealers, have announced that they will present $3,000 worth of furniture to Mrs. Clemington Corson, second woman to swim the English Channel.

The fifth national convention of the Young Poale Zion organization of the United States and Canada will open in Albany, N. Y. today. The sessions will last until next Monday. Approximately seventy delegates are expected to attend.

Of the 852 law students who passed the State bar examinations held in June, 499 are Jewish students.
