The Executive Committee of the Berlin Jewish Community has decided to purchase a number of works of art by Jewish artists to add to its collection of pictures and statuary. This decision was taken on the initiative of the Jewish People’s Party with a view of furthering Jewish art since the Jewish middle-class has ceased buying Jewish works of art because of the economic crisis.
A special commission was elected by the Executive Committee of the Berlin Jewish Community with Dr. Sandler as President. The Committee has already chosen a number of pictures, engravings and sculptures, some of which will be retained by the Jewish community and others distributed among the various institutions of the community. Included in the selection of the Committee are works by Steinhard, Julius Rosenbaum and Rahel Szalit. A special sum for the purchase of these works will be allocated in the 1927 budget of the Berlin Jewish Community.
