Dedication of the Louis S. Brush Memorial Dormitory, one of the three new buildings which will house the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, took place Sunday in a large tent erected in the seminary’s quadrangle. Dr. Cyrus Adler, who presided, paid tribute to the memory of Mr. Brush.
Speaking on the work of the seminary, Dr. Adler said:
“We count the usefulness and success of all of our institutions by their effectiveness in the maintenance of Jewish tradition and the increase and the dissemination of Jewish knowledge. More and more it should be borne upon the Jewish people that it is through the Torah that they have been maintained in life.”
Others who spoke were Dr. Israel H. Levinthal and Elkan N. Adler. Dr. Adler conferred honorary degrees on Elkan Adler, traveler and writer; Dr. George Foote Moore of Harvard and Morris Levine of the seminary staff; and on Rabbis Max Drob, Abraham Hershman, and Max D. Klein of Philadelphia, all of whom are graduates of the seminary.
