Three outstanding American institutions–Harvard University, Yale University, and the New York Times–which this year are celebrating significant anniversaries, were honored here tonight by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
Honorary degrees were conferred by the Seminary upon Doctor James B. Conant, president of Harvard University; Doctor A. Whitney Griswold, president of Yale University; and Arthur H. Sulzberger, president and publisher of the New York Times. Lewis L. Strauss, president of The Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, and formerly a member of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, was the principal speaker at this event.
