Some $300,000 was raised here last night at a dinner of the National Patrons Society of the Theological Seminary of America, the educational arm of Conservative Judaism. More than 750 persons were present to initiate a campaign which seeks to enroll 1,000 "patrons" to contribute at least $1,000 annually for the seminary.
Gov. Theodore R. McKeldin of Maryland, the featured speaker, warned that "hate is mobile and can be easily diverted as from Negroes to Jews." Commenting on the recent bombings of synagogues, the Governor said:" Judaism is emerging as a powerful and effective spiritual force in America and the dynamiting of synagogues is thus a sort of left-handed tribute to its rising importance."
