COL. THEODORE ROOSEVELT JR. WARNED THAT INTOLERANCE AND BIGOTRY WHICH, HE SAID, ARE “RUNNING LIKE WILDFIRE THROUGH THE WORLD,” AND ARE FOUND IN OUR OWN COUNTRY, “WILL TAKE CONTROL IF WE ABANDON DEMOCRACY.” HE SAID THAT “OUR INSTITUTIONS ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO PROTECT MINORITIES.”
