A resolution endorsing the stand of the American Jewish Conference on the question of the establishment of a Jewish Commonwealth in Palestine, was adopted here today at the closing session of the 48th annual convention of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States. This was the first time that the JWV has taken any stand on Palestine issues. The resolution also demanded the immediate withdrawal of the White Paper of 1939 and free and unrestricted immigration into Palestine.
The convention called on the American Legion, as the largest veterans’ organization in the country, to take the leadership in convening a conference of all national veteran groups to study the causes of race riots and means of educating the public to eradicate race and religious hatred. It condemned the recent riots in Detroit as “a reflection of the Axis policy of divide and conquer” and warned that such outbreaks disrupted American unity and impeded war production.
The 1,000 delegates who attended the convention elected Archie H. Greenberg national commander to succeed the retiring commander Benjamin Kaufmann.
