The National Finance Council of the Jewish Welfare Board voted last night, at the conclusion of a two-day session, to allocate the sum of $1,171,590 for various JWB services in the coming year. Irving Edson of St. Louis, chairman of the Council, pointed out that the increase in the budget from this year’s appropriation of $620,000 is necessitated by the increase in the number of Jews in the armed forces.
The 1944 appropriation will be used to furnish the following services to Jewish men and women in the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines:
Supervising religious supplies and conducting religious services for Jewish soldiers and sailors at home and abroad. Providing Jewish hospitality in areas not covered by the USO. Work with cadets and other students on college campuses. Work with discharged veterans of the armed forces. Work with wounded soldiers and sailors in general hospitals. Providing guidance, program material and other help to Y.M.H.A.’s, Y.W.H.A.’s and Jewish Community Centers.
