Formation of a Women’s Division of the National Jewish Welfare Board to assist in the Board’s USO operations and civilian defense and related activities, was announced here today by Frank L. Weil, president of the Board. Mrs. Alfred R. Bachrach, New York City, is chairman of the new division.
To assure the greatest possible degree of cooperation from American women of Jewish faith, the Women’s Division has mailed thousands of “aptitude questionnaires” to Jewish Community Centers and women’s societies throughout the nation. Answers to the questionnaires will be indexed to form a ready reference of talents and abilities available for specific tasks in all sections of the country.
National organizations already represented in the new division are the National Council of Jewish Women, the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, the Women’s Branch of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the Women’s Division of the American Jewish Congress, and the Women’s League of the United Synagogue of America. The 328 Jewish Community Centers and YMHA’s in the United States affiliated with the Board will also cooperate in the program.
