The National Jewish Welfare Board will continue its traditional program for Jewish personnel in the peacetime armed forces and veterans ans’ hospitals, following the deactivation of the U.S.O. as of today, it was announced here by Frank L. Well, president of the J.W.B.
Mr. Weil emphasized that despite the fact suspension of operations by the U.S.O., of which the Jewish Welfare Board has been an operating agency, means the loss to the J.W.B. of any further U.S.O. funds, the J.W.B. will continue to meet in full the responsibility for service to the Jews in the armed forces. At the same time, Mr. Well pointed out that the 1950 budget of $1,474,485, which the J.W.B. adopted last October, will require immediate reconsideration in the light of the unanticipated financial burden which the organization must meet because of the suspension of the U.S.O.
