Isaac Scheinkes, a Jewish resident of Grosswardein, who was called as a witness before the military court in the trial of anti-Semitic students who participated in the anti-Jewish excesses, was attacked in court and seriously injured.
Gendarmes and police who were in the court building were compelled to draw their swords in fighting off the attackers.
The riot occurred yesterday when the court started the trial of the last group of 28 students who participated in the anti-Jewish excesses. Ninety attorneys volunteered to defend the accused. One hundred ninety-five witnesses were called by the defense. The trial, which had been three times postponed, will last a long time before a verdict is rendered.
