The Council of Jewish Women opened a five-day conference here last night with a program which includes discussion of social betterment in the fields of religion, social welfare, education and civic affairs. The council is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary and its tenth triennial convention.
Officers and the Executive Board met yesterday at the Hotel Chase. They were entertained by the St. Louis section at luncheon at the Westwood Country Club. Official welcome was extended to the Council Sunday night at Temple Shaare Emeth by Mayor Keil for St. Louis. The message of Miss Rose Brenner, President of the Council was read by Mrs. Harry Sternberger, Secretary.
Addresses were also made by Mrs. Nathaniel Harris, Mrs. Israel Cowen, Dr. Emanuel Sale of Shaare Emeth Temple gave the invocation, Mrs. Carrie Chapman Catt will speak tomorrow night on “War or Peace” Among others who will appear during the week are Judge Florence E. Allen of the Supreme Court of Ohio and Mrs. Ernest L. Franklin of London. Mrs. Franklin is the sister of Edwin Montague, former Secretary for India.
